Integration is Still The Challenge For Organizations - Takeaways from Gartner AADI London 2018

June 8, 2018

I recently participated in Gartner's Application Architecture, Development & Integration Summit 2018 in London and I must say, that it was a wonderful experience. If you are not familiar with Gartner AADI, it a key event that connects IT & business leaders and industry analysts in one place. It was not the first time that Axway was a sponsor of this technology rendezvous, and we were not disappointed. We came back with plenty of inspirations, thoughts and energy to continue making Axway’s customers and partners leaders in hybrid integration.

The integration drivers and challenges facing customers range from digital transformation and modernization, to multi-cloud, and business-to-business. Couple those drivers with questions of how can an enterprise empower the use of integration and get more value through AI, machine learning, and tools that simplify integration consumption.

Why?

Mostly because of the complexity of environments in which enterprise applications operates. I mean with cloud, multi-cloud, microservices, legacy systems and modern applications, the ‘integration challenge’ only gets harder and harder.

At Axway, we believe that a platform for hybrid integration is the right approach to thrive in this hyper competitive era and embrace integration challenges. A hybrid integration platform enables the delivery of many integration patterns across cloud, managed file transfer, API management, content collaboration and content services, mobile backend-as-a-service, and IoT integration. Further, it should empower the many different integration personas from the specialist to the citizen integrator. And finally, it should offer the customer choice in how the integration flows interact whether ground-to-ground, cloud-to-ground, and multi-cloud to multi-cloud to address their company, industry, or regulatory needs around data sovereignty.

During the event, we all agreed that a hybrid platform that will be competitive should:

  • Serve multiple integration personas
  • Deliver prioritized integration scenarios
  • Support on-premise, multi-cloud and multi-gateway
  • Come with pre-integrated capabilities to high priority apps, data, services
  • Easily work with cloud-platform solutions (IaaS and PaaS) and devops toolchains

And a differentiated hybrid platform will:

  • Provide great experience that removes friction and delivers demonstrable ROI over “entrenched” integration offerings (e.g. ESB, MOM, MDM, etc)
  • Enable and empower users who leverage the integration scenarios to be more productive in their day-to-day (e.g. easy expansion of existing ‘order to cash’ integration to other partners and ecosystem players OR use AI/ML to aid in data mapping, data transformation/translation, etc)
  • Allow customers flexibility to protect data sovereignty and comply with industry or geo/country data regulations
  • Make it easy to extend the hybrid integration platform by exposing APIs from the platform to allow for an enterprise-specific control plane or integration with 3rd party applications (ITSM etc)
  • Accelerate enterprise innovation through pre-integration with 3rd party APIs, services, and partners (SFDC, Twillio, and Bosch IOT) where WE deliver the integration and manage the up-keep for the customers.

I believe at Axway, we’re on the right track toward a differentiated hybrid platform. We have been already recognized by Ovum analysts as a Market Leader in Middleware-as-a-Service for Hybrid Integration.
